Dundee city
Fairbridge in Dundee works to help young people identify and address a broad range of barriers to their engagement in society. As well as being one of the areas recognised by the Scottish Government’s More Choices more chances strategy as a hotspot for the proportion of 16-19 year olds outside of Education Employment and Training, Dundee carries one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Scotland and still grapples with a widespread problem with drugs misuse.
Criminal behaviour in many cases walks hand and hand with alcohol and substance issues and several of the young people who access our services have a history of offending behaviour. In addition to this, non attendance and persistent exclusion from school are issues for a significant number of young people in our under 16’s programme.
These issues are encountered by Fairbridge staff on a daily basis in a non judgemental and proactive manner and young people are helped to look at ways in which they might start to be addressed.
