Fairbridge in Edinburgh receives referrals from a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations including schools, housing services and hostels, youth offending teams, CAMHS, youth and social services. We also receive referrals directly from parents and young people themselves.

Referral case study

Hillside School, Aberdour

Hillside School have embedded the Fairbridge Programme into the development process for relevant young people and they formally endorse our work. They have expressed their apprecation of the work and support provided by Fairbridge and have acknowledged how much of a benefit this has been to the young people who have used our services.

Craigmount High School

Craigmount High School regularly refer young people to the Fairbridge programme and recent feedback from them has shown that they are impressed with the dedication and professionalism of staff. Feedback from one of the guidance teachers was that he appreciated the work being done with the young people being reffered to Fairbridge.

Verbal Feedback from Parents

Feedback received from 2 parents has stated that Fairbridge has been really supportive and helped their children gain confidence and progress positively. One of the young people wasnt even interested in attending school and then moved onto sit exams.

Another parent was concerned that her son had not attended school in 6 months or really left the house after difficult circumstances, however since attending Fairbridge he has completely changed and started to be the boy she once knew, he is now back at school and looking into going to college or getting a job.

City of Edinburgh Council

We’ve been working with City of Edinburgh Council Education and Social Work Department for a number of years now. They are responsible for identifying and working with young people who are at risk of being excluded from school.

Young people tend to progress further when they are supported by their referrer through induction, midway meetings and attendance at young people’s graduation. We prefer that all referrers at time of referral guarantee attendance at these three key stages.

The Education and Social Work Department at Edinburgh send a steady stream of referrals to Fairbridge.
