The paddle to Parliament!

Mark Birkbeck Kayak

Fairbridge Development Tutor Mark Birkbeck has taken part in a 125 mile canoe race from Devizes to Westminster, in order to raise vital funds for the Fairbridge centre in Kennington.

The first 52 miles were along the Kennet and Avon Canal, the next 55 miles on the River Thames and the final section on the tricky and challenging tidal portion of the Thames. Mark finally crossed the finish line at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.

The race is the longest non-stop canoe race in the world and has been held over the Easter weekend every year since 1948. It is a severe test of skill and stamina and for those who manage to complete it, a memorable sense of achievement.

Mark, who completed the challenge within 26 hours and 40 minutes, has so far raised a massive £1,089 for Fairbridge Kennington. Well done Mark!
