Fairbridge in Kent receives referrals from a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations including schools, housing services and hostels, youth offending teams, CAMHS, youth and social services. We also receive referrals directly from parents and young people themselves.

The team works closely with young people and their families to provide an early intervention service to curtail anti-social behaviour and to prevent crime. It assists victims of crime and where appropriate, includes them in the youth justice process to take part in a restorative justice programme. YOT workers also provide intensive supervision and surveillance programmes for persistent young offenders and operate effective plans for preparing young people to return into the community from custody and reduce the risk of them re-offending. Most of those referred to Fairbridge are under 16. Young offenders are provided with the constructive activities and intensive support they need to move away from criminality or prevent them from engaging in offending behaviour.
PC David Lambourne, YOT team:
"Fairbridge gives the young people something positive and provides support when they need it most. All the young people referred have benefited from the Fairbridge experience and have been helped. The approach is friendly and helpful."
Trish Flood, Medway ETE officer:
"Fairbridge is very good - it helps with the amount of work time spent directly with the offenders. Each month the Fairbridge Outreach Worker comes to the office and holds a surgery, where she sees a number of offenders and provides comprehensive information for both the offenders and myself - from updates to forthcoming courses.
I have found from speaking with some of my offenders that Fairbridge has been a positive step in helping them move forward. It also develops more appropriate ways of social interaction with both their peers and families. I have found Fairbridge to be a vital provision in the support and development of my offenders."
