Bury FC and Fairbridge

Bury FC Trust and Fairbridge came together to deliver the Junior Football Organiser qualification to young people in and around Bury in 2009.

The JFO qualification allows young people to understand and demonstrate self confidence, teamwork, communication and group management skills. Young people from Fairbridge worked together to deliver a coaching sessions and tournament to local Primary School children and also studied topics such as child protection, coach plans and providing opportunity for youngsters.

All 12 young people who attended the course passed with flying colours and feedback given showed that group had developed their confidence as a results. Certificate were presented to those that attended the course during a Bury FC game in late November. Young people where called onto the pitch at half time and presented with certificates in front hundreds of fans. Another JFO course is planned for February 2010 and we hope that young people will benefit from this course as much as the last course.

Chris Brain, Development Tutor at Fairbridge said ‘ the young people got really involved in the activities and it was a great chance for them to learn new skills around something that they enjoy so much. It important for them to build confidence and motivation and I think that the JFO course really did help with that. I’m looking forward to the next course!’
