So what are you – a local company, a potential volunteer or maybe someone interested in becoming a committee member? There’s every chance that your local Fairbridge centre needs you.
There is so much going on at Fairbridge – so why not get involved. Your support will make a big difference!
Fairbridge Kent works with the lighting department at John Lewis Blue Water to provide extra help for its young people.
The collaboration involves John Lewis staff volunteering on day courses at Fairbridge - working alongside development trainers to provide extra help for a range of courses such as art and football.
Janeen Allwright, PDO
“About ten staff have so far come in to volunteer and it seems to have been a positive experience for everyone involved.
For the young people it is great because they get another non-centre adult to talk to – a young person from the outside world, which is good for their communication and personal development.
It’s also a good opportunity for us to open our doors, be more transparent and help outside companies to understand young people better.
I hear things like: “You just work with ASBOs,” but once they come down here and see the problems the young people face, they understand them better.”
The store staff have really enjoyed it, and some of them have expressed an interest in coming back because they liked it so much. They have also offered to get the team in and decorate a room, providing funding for all of the materials
Overall I think that this kind of relationship is the way forward as it gets the local community to properly understand what we do.”
