JACKIE DARLINGTON - SALVATION ARMY
I am a principal project worker at the Salvation Army men’s hostel and support men between the age of 18 and up. We also work with the youth offending team and can accommodate three 16 year olds. As part of my role supporting service users I often promote Fairbridge to the young people in the hostel. A lot of the young people that are referred to the hostel are not doing much with the time and Fairbrigge helps young people to have a structured day and interact with young people of their own age and give them the confidence to take control of their own lives.
I have referred a number of our young people who have thoroughly enjoyed their time at Fairbridge and have been given the opportunity to do various activities and also go on the “Spirit”.
Daz is also a great mentor for the young people and he is very approachable. The feed back that I have received from our young people is that Daz is great. You need to have personalities like Daz when working with vulnerable young people to try and break down barriers.
I think that Fairbridge is brilliant for young people and can say that all the staff has always supported our young people to get them involved in activities. Some of our young people currently attend Fairbridge and really enjoy it. I hope that Fairbridge continue to provide a fantastic service to young people in our hostel.
