Fairbridge Cymru has been working with young people aged 13-25 in Wales for over 21 years, and was formally registered as an independent Welsh charity with the Charity Commission in 2004. The young people we work are some of the most challenged, disengaged and hardest to reach in Wales. All face or are at risk of falling out of education, employment or training. These young people often have multiple support needs ranging from self-esteem to homelessness, substance misuse to self-harm and may lack family support or a safe home environment.
Fairbridge Cymru helps these young people to develop the skills and confidence they need to make positive changes in their lives. Through a range of challenging and structured activities, complimented by one-to-one support, young people choose to return to a Fairbridge centre to address their needs and to turn their lives around at their own pace.
Fairbridge Cymru works with local and national government, and other statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure young people are provided with the best care and support for their needs. Fairbridge Cymru is considered a key stakeholder in Wales for the provision and support of disengaged young people. Every year, up to 500 young people voluntarily engage with Fairbridge Cymru. For many, we are their first step towards a brighter future.
