Second Step Floating Support Unit

For the past eighth months, Fairbridge West has been working with the Second Step Floating Support Unit, which provides practical and emotional support to people aged 16 to 60 who are at risk of becoming homeless.

Rachel Dill, Outreach & Development Worker, Fairbridge:

"Fairbridge complements Second Step’s services by offering young people challenging activities in a group setting and long term 1:1 support.

I am currently working with three young people from the group. They have completed a five- day high impact Access and have now gone into the full prgramme.

One of them, has done a six day sail around Scotland on our tall ship Spirit and is in the process of applying for a place on a Venture Trust course. Since joining our personal development programme, she has gained valuable skills and confidence, has set out a clear pathway and is making steps towards achieving her chosen career.

I feel that working alongside Second Step to support their young people is really making a difference to people's lives and helping them to realize that they have the potential to achieve what they want to achieve.”
